The Old Posthouse B&B

We started the B&B in 2018, having had no experience in hospitality. We took on lots of helpful advice and now have a 4 star Award, a Gold Award and a Breakfast Award from VisitEngland; and in 2023 we received a VisitEngland Rose Award for service excellence. From SME News, we received a Best of British Getaways 2023 award and in the Midlands Enterprise Awards for 2024 an Award for Traditional Country Guest House of the Year – Lincolnshire; and we were shortlisted in the Tourism Excellence Awards for 2024-25 in the Best B&B and Guest House category for Lincolnshire and Rutland.

Normanby by Spital

Normanby by Spital is tucked away in the peaceful Lincolnshire countryside, just north of Lincoln. It is a picturesque little village with a long history, being mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 – where it is referred to as Normanebi. The name comes from Old English and Old Scandinavian meaning Northman village; and the Spital refers to the ancient hospital for the poor that was located on Ermine Street (now the A15) and where the hamlet of Spital in the Street is now located. It has a pub, The Bottle & Glass and a village shop/Post Office.

The Bottle & Glass

The Bottle and Glass is our local. It is a charming traditional pub in the middle of the village - about 2 minutes walk from our front door.  It has a wide selection of drinks and a good range of pub food; and is an ideal spot to unwind. If it's sunny you can sit outside.

Our guests seem to love it, as it is mentioned (favourably) in a number of reviews about our B&B. As one guest commented in her review, it is "..a fabulous little pub".

Walks

There are some lovely short walks from The Old Posthouse.

If you want to explore the area around the village and go for a walk, as the village is surrounded by countryside, there are various walks from the village of just over 1 mile to approximately 7 miles.

We have maps with directions that guests can use.

Tony and Julia

We moved to Lincolnshire in 2015 and opened The Old Posthouse B&B in 2018.

We love meeting the different people who come and stay; and passing on tips about where to visit.

Tony is a keen cook, and likes to try different cuisines; and Julia helps by sampling his efforts while complaining about the mess he has left. We both love walking, visiting the Antiques centres at Hemswell Cliff, and visiting the local pubs.
